Indian powerlifters make splash in Korea, win 49 medals

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) Indian powerlifters reaped a rich harvest of 49 medals, besides women team and overall team championships, at the recent 18th Asian Senior, Junior, Sub-Junior and Master (Men and Women) championship at Teabaek City, Korea.

Indian powerlifters won a whopping 22 Gold, 19 Silver and eight Bronze medals, apart from the women group championship and overall (men and women) championship in the five-day meet which concluded on May 5, according to an Indian Powerlifting Federation release here today.

More than 200 participants from 13 countries took part in the championship.

Among the women powerlifters, J Ramalaxmi (48kg sub-junior), Chandana Das (52kg sub-junior), Madhabia B Pardeshi (44kg junior), Shyamla Devi (60kg junior), Jenis Joseph (67.5 kg junior), Sarita Verma (44kg senior), Madhuri Bhagwat (75kg senior), Ranu Mohanty (67.5 kg senior), Mallika Sharma(90kg senior), RM Roy Choudhury (75kg master), Leela S Korgaonkar (82.5kg master) and Raksha R Maharao (+90kg master) won the gold.

For the men powerlifters, Ajinka Joshi (52kg sub-junior), KP Arjun (110kg sub-junior), Rajinder Singh (52kg junior), Shyam Singh Rana (56kg junior), Dilip Sharma (56kg senior), HR Agnihotri (125kg masters), Satish Patade (56kg master), James Joseph (67.5kg master), SL Yadav (90kg master) and Dinesh Khajuria (52kg master) won the gold.
