Cellular services to be included in Indian Telegraph Act

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The government today decided to introduce a Bill in Parliament to amend the more than a century-old Indian Telegraph Act to bring cellular services in its ambit.

The Union Cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gave its approval for introducing the Bill to amend the Indian Telegraph Act 1885, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.

The Bill will add phone services to the basic telegraph services within the scope of the Universal Service Obligation Fund for faster expansion of telecommunication services, Mr Dasmunsi said.
