Cabinet reverses NDA decision on Panchayati Raj law

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The UPA government today decided to reverse a decision taken by the NDA regime on empowering states to change laws relating to the Panchayati Raj.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.

The change was sought to have been made under section 243(c) of the 87th Constitutional Amendment.

The UPA government decided to reverse the decision as it was felt that it would not serve any purpose, the Minister said.
