This will be first such visit by an Indian Army chief to any South American country, the release added.

He left on May six.

''Gen Singh's visit to the two countries would open doors to enhance Army-to-Army cooperation with these countries, especially in the field of training for UN operations, mountain and jungle warfare, adventure activities and interaction between "Military Think Tanks,'' it added.

Of late, many countries including some from South America, had evinced keen interest in the Indian Army, especially with the Indian defence training institutions which have rich operational experience, both in conventional and sub-conventional warfares.
