100,000 people in NE get employment under REGP

Shillong, May 9 (UNI) Nearly 100,000 people have got employment in the North East region under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) during the first three years of the Tenth Plan.

During the period, 5,755 projects have been taken up, generating employment for 97,060 people, a government release said here today.

About 828 projects were set up during the year 2005-06 utilising Rs 397.53 lakh margin money, resulting in employment to 34,106 people.

Besides, 24 exhibitions were organised upto January 2006 for display and sale of products manufactured by REGP entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs in the North East region enjoy several concessional facilities while taking up projects under the REGP. They get 30 per cent margin money, while entrepreneurs elsewhere receive 25 per cent.

Besides, entrepreneurs in the region need to contribute only five per cent of the total project cost, while the normal rate is 10 per cent elsewhere.
