Vijayakanth chased out of Vanniyar village
Vriddhachalam, Tamil Nadu, May 8 (UNI) Actor Vijayakanth, making his political debut in this Vanniyar-dominated belt of northern Cuddalore district, was chased out of a village by PMK supporters today.
Police said the actor-politician attempted to enter Muthanai village, near here, to monitor polling, when his convoy was blocked by the villagers.
Raising slogans against him, the villagers, said to be hardcore supporters of the Vanniyar-dominated PMK, refused to allow him an entry and turned him away.
Even as Vijayakanth was leaving the place without much argument, stones and slippers were reportedly thrown at his vehicle. The actor was not hurt in the incident, the sources said.
The villagers also turned their ire on a lensman of a leading Tamil daily, who captured the entire incident on his camera. The mob assualted the photographer and smashed his camera to bits. He was released a few hours after being held captive.
However, no complaint had been lodged so far, the sources said.
