Quota issue: Student's await minister's respose
New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) With state polls drawing to a close this week, students protesting increased reservation in higher education centres today said they will wait for a response from Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh before taking a stand on their future agitation strategy.
''Since the election code is lifting, we will wait for a response from the minister. If we don't get a response soon, we will have to go on the agitation path once again,'' AIIMS Students' Union spokesperson Sasmit Sarangi told UNI.
Students from Delhi's five medical colleges, the Delhi University and other institutions have been holding protests since April 27, opposing the government's proposal.
The agitating students -- who had met President A P J Abdul Kalam last week -- are also planning to seek appointment with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, MPs and other leaders to press for cancellation of the government proposal.
According to Adityaraj Kaul of the United Students', the schedule for the protests during the upcoming session of parliament had not been finalised as yet.
