Power supply situation in K'taka manageable
Bangalore, May 8 (UNI) Asserting that the power supply situation in Karnataka is manageable, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) Chairman Bharatlal Meena today ruled out resorting to load-shedding in the urban areas of the State.
Talking to reporters here, he said the KPTCL did not propose to impose any load shedding, except in rural areas where too only six hours of load shedding was being resorted to. Nine hours of three-phase and another nine hours of two-phase electricity supply was being ensured for rural consumers.
The present consumption was around 110 million units and the peak demand during summer was 127 million units this year, he added.
Mr Meena said irrigation pumpsets in the State were consuming over 35 per cent of the total power supply and contributed only about eight per cent in terms of revenue collection. The High Tension consumers accounted for over 25 per cent of power consumption and over 40 per cent in terms of revenue.
Expressing displeasure over the Karnataka Electricity Regulation Commission not approving its request for hike in transmission tariff, he said the KERC's decision would be challenged at the appellete tribunal. He also expressed unhappiness over KERC not granting permission to various investment proposals for improving transmission projects.
