Orissa govt seeks Law department's opinion on Budhia's run

Bhubaneswar, May 8 (UNI) The Orissa government today sought the opinion of its Law and Home departments on the recommendation of a five-member medical team restricting ''wonder kid'' Budhia Singh's marathon run.

State Women and Child development Minister Pramila Mallick told newspersons that she had received the report of the medical team appointed by her department to investigate the health condition of four-year-old Budhia, who last week entered the Limca Book of Records for his non-stop 65 km marathon run from Puri to Bhubaneswar in seven hours two minutes.

The team, she said, had recommended that the kid should not be made to run long distance as it might affect his growth, heart and other vital organs.

When asked whether the state government would impose any ban on the child's marathon run, the Minister said whatever steps would be taken for the betterment of the boy as per advice of the medical team and the opinion of the legal experts.

The child prodigy appeared before a medical team last Friday at the Capital Hospital to undergo various tests to ascertain whether he had suffered physically after his record run.

The team reported that Budhia clinically appeared under-nourished with anaemia and angular stomatitis and his pulse and blood pressure on the higher side.
