Landmines recovered during raids in a Tripura forest
Agartala, May 8 (UNI) In a major raid jawans of the security forces recovered five landmines and three country-made self-loading rifles (SLR) from a forest near Champahawar in Khowai Sub-Division of Tripura's West district yesterday, Police said today.
Acting on a tip off, the jawans of the 15th Battalion of Assam Rifles launched a combing operation jointly with the state police in the forest area of Champahawar to track down a group of extremists, who had taken shelter in the forest.
Police said the militants fled the forest well before the combing operation but left five landmines and three country-made SLR behind.
After recovery of the arms and landmines, the security forces had mounted combing operation in the forest area to flash out the militants.
