Goa to host National Board sailing championship from tomorrow

Panaji, May 8 (UNI) Goa will host the six-day National Board sailing (windsurfing) championship 2006 and selection trials for ISFA youth world championship from May 9 to 14 off Hawaii Beach Dona Paula near here.

Goa Yachting Association( GYA) President Umaji Chowgule and Board Sailing Association of India (BSAI) President Mr Cezsar Menezes jointly told media persons here today that more then 25 of the country's best sailors would represent Yachting clubs from all over india under the auspices of the Board Sailing Association of India.

Mr Chowgule said the selection trials for the Indian team participating in the ISFA youth world championships and the Goa state championships will be decided during the this event.

Among the 25 sailers who will participae in the events Goa's Remy Fernandes and Derrick Menezes are the best sailors of Goa and India. Remy Fernandes was the National champions for seven times while Menezes was champions for four times.

Mr Chowgule said, number of races in all classes will be 10 and Every day two to three races will be held and regata will be governed by the 2005/2008 ISAF rules of sailing windsurf competition Rules( WCR). He said,the low points scorin system shall 5 races are required to constitute a series. when 5 races are completed, a board series score will be the total of her race scores. when 6 to 7 races are completed, a boards score will be the total of her races scores exluding her worst scores. When 8 to 10 races are completed, two worst scores may be disarded.

The race course will be set in the centre of the Bay which lies between Mormugao Harbour and Dona Paula.

India might be allotted the 2008 Raceboard( Windsurfing) World Chmpionship considering Goa track is the best to hold the event, Mr Menezes said.
