Congress confident of better results for party in West Bengal
Kolkata, May 8 (UNI) The West Bengal Pradesh Congress today expressed confidence to do better in the state assembly elections that ended today culminating the five-phase polling that began on April 17 for 294-seat house.
However, the election to Bhatpara seat in North 24-parganas was countermanded following the death of a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate.
Praising the Election Commission for holding free and fair polls for the first time in Bengal, WBPCC working president Pradip Bhattacharjee said the party would surely do better this time when results announced on May 11.
He told newspersons that barring some stray incidents, the EC has overall successfully conducted unprecedented free and fair elections, which the people responded tremendously.
Mr Bhattacharjee said his party candidates would do better in the last phase polls.
''We have complained to Chief Electoral Officer Debashis Sen and observers of booth no. 97 and 104 of Kalchini in Jalpaiguri district regarding some false voting and booth no. 105 and 101 for slow process of voting and both have assured to look into the matter'', he said.
