CISF man fires in air to disperse crowd

Villuppuram, May 8 (UNI) A CISF security personnel on polling duty fired one round in the air to disperse a 50-member mob, which allegedly attempted to attack him near a polling booth at Pookaravari village in Chinna Salem Assembly constituency here today.

Police said the trouble started following a wordy duel with a voter when the CISF man tried to regulate the crowd near the booth.

In the melee, the voter was jostled by the CISF staff. Enraged, the person mobilised a 50-member strong mob, came near the booth and tried to attack him.

Sensing danger, the CISF personnel fired one round in the air to disperse the mob.

On hearing the gun shot, a police party rushed to the spot, pacified the agitators, and restored normalcy.

Polling was not affected following the incident.
