Centre to reward States achieving maximum PLF
Bangalore, May 8 (UNI) Expressing concern over the low plant load factor (PLF) in power generating stations, Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today informed that the Centre will announce an incentive scheme to reward those States achieving maximum PLF.
Speaking after inaugurating the Light Museum and Energy Centre here, he said the PLF in many States was less than 50 per cent and those States which achieve 90-95 per cent would be rewarded.
Calling upon young scientists in the country to work towards improving energy conservation and efficiency, the Minister said ''if we achieve minimum 15 pc energy conservation, we can save 20,000 MW of power.'' Mr Shinde said that under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification programme, all the villages in the country would be electrified by 2009 at an estimated cost of over Rs 6,000 crore.
He declared the Shivanasamudra hydel generation centre in Karnataka as a national heritage centre in commemoration of the completion of 100 years of power generation.
