Bill to provide for creches for kids of women employees soon

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) Women coping with the twin demands of work and home will no longer be under stress, as the Governmnet will soon make incumbent on their employers, to provide safe and environment friendly creches for their children upto six years of age.

While there is already a statutory requirement on the employers to provide creches for the children of working women, most of the offices and industrial establishments have not given much thought to it.

''With a view to sending a message that the government means business, the Ministry of Women and Child Development is working actively on a bill for Creches and Day Care Centres which will soon make it incumbent upon each and every organisaltion which employs women to provide them with creche and day care facilities'', top level sources told UNI.

The nodal Ministry for Women and Child Development has already sent a strongly-worded letter to the leading industry organisations asking them to provide working women with the creche facilities for their children.

''It is important that all organisations which employ women workers or where there is demand by at least of five women for creches to look after their children up to six years of age, such offices should be duty-bound to open safe creches in a child friendly and safe environment so that women do not have to worry about the safety and care of their children'', the ministry letter said.

It also noted with concern, that there already exists, statutory requirement for creches but most of the organisations have not really bothered to take any action.

Women with small children often find it difficult to cope with the twin pressure of work and home and therefore, it is essential that offices must provide support to such women so that they are able to work with full concentraiton, the ministry said.
