AIFJ to provide journalists with insurance cover

Machilipatnam, May 8: The All India Federation of Journalist (AIFJ) will cover each member journalist with an insurance of Rs five lakh, Andhra Pradesh Journalist Union (APJU) president P R Ramamurthy and General Secretary CH Purnachandar Rao said today.

Talking to reporters here, they said the insurance would cover journalist, who have completed one year of membership either with the AIFJ or its state unit APJU.

They said the insurance cover is being made by the AIFJ for the welfare of journalists.

Stating that the AIFJ was taking the implementation of wage board directives seriously, they urged the Union Government to immediately constitute a Media Commission on the lines of the Press Commission to study the status of the print and electronic media as both had undergone a sea change in terms of working condition and coverage.
