Traffic restored on Mumbai-Agra highway
Thane, May 7 (UNI) The traffic on Mumbai-Agra highway passing through Sahapur in Thane district, which was blocked more than six hours has now been restored by the district police.
Local villagers had resorted to rasta roko to vent their anger against the death of four people and eight others who were injured in an accident involving an auto-rickshaw and a tanker.
The ill-fated auto-rickshaw was carrying 11 people from Atgaon railway station and was proceeding towards Sahapur station when it collided with a tanker.
The deceased have been identified as Sonali malu Bhoir (8), her brother Ajay (12). Two others, including a man and a woman, who died are yet to be identified, police said.
The injured are being treated at Shahapur taluka hospital.
Although, traffic has been restored, the situation is tense as people are still annoyed over the accident that claimed for people and injured several others, police said.
This is the second such incident in less than three weeks.
A couple of weeks ago, a tanker knocked down a young girl at Navi Mumbai killing her instantly.
