MMRDA not transported single Kg of silt- Somaiya
Mumbai, May 7 (UNI) Former Member of Parliament (MP) Kirit Somaiya today urged the MMRDA authorities to start transpoting the removed material from Mithi River, which was dumped on the river bank.
Mr Somaiya said here today that MMRDA contractor have removed 2,25,000 cubic metres of silt from Mithi river, but it has been dumped on the river bank itself. it is feared that if it rains, the whole silt will become wet and once again go into the river. He also alleged that the state government is delaying the Mithi rejuvenation work by trying to accommodate about 269 scrap dealers.
He further said due to delay in removing 269 scrap dealers, the whole one km stretch between Kalpana Talkies to CST (Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus) road has remained untouched. It is also the spot whether backwaters of Mahim Creek and Mithi River water from Vihar lake come and meet. Due to the deadlock, the whole area of Airport, Kalpana Talkies Junction, Airline colonies, LBS marg, Vidhya Vihar and Kurla Railway station gets flooded during monsoon, he added.
