Srinagar, May 7 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the state government to identify about 7,526 kanals of land to be handed over to the Lakes And Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for rehabilitation of Dal Lake dwellers.

A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Bashir Ahmed Khan and Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani, directed the state government to comply with the court orders.

The non-compliance of court orders by any official will not be tolerated, the Bench added.

The court also directed the Deputy Commissioner, Badgam to cooperate with the LAWDA and allot 7,526 kanals and 6 marlas to the authority for rehabilitation of Dal dwellers.

It directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir to install surveillance cameras in the Dal Lake area so that truck drivers ferrying construction and other material would be caught and brought to book.

The Bench also asked the Divisional Manager of the State Forest Corporation to identify the places where trees are being illegally planted.
