Irate mob sets ablaze police chowki following an accident in Thane
Thane, May 7 (UNI) An irate mob of hundreds of villagers today torched a police chowki following a road accident in which at least five people were killed and some others were seriously injured, district rural police has reported.
Quoting reports received at the district headquarters today police said ''it was about 0900 hrs in the morning there was a road accident in the limits of the Sahapur police station on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, when a Tanker and an auto rickshaw collided, in which at least five people were killed and others injured.'' Following the accident the villagers resorted to an instant 'rasta roko' which still continues the police said.
The irate mob went on a rampage and set the police chowki on fire, and also blocked traffic on the Mumbai-Agra highway police added.
However, the Sahapur fire brigade had put out the fire.
Additional police force has been rushed to Sahapur where senior police officers including the district Superintendent of Police Archana Tyagi here rushed the situation was still tense police added.
The injured have been admitted to the Sahapur rural hospital, police said.
