Indian coast guard rescues a person from foreign research vessel

Port Blair, May 07 (UNI) Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ICGMRCC) has rescued a Russian crew member from a research vessel, carrying out seismic survey, 180 miles north east of Port Blair.

ICGMRCC had received a message on May 5 from Professor Kurentsov that one of its crew members was sick and evacuation.

Reacting an information, ICGMRCC had alerted all concerned agencies and prepared one of its coast guard ship for evacuation.

Indian Coast Guard reacted promptly and sailed CGS Kanaklata Barua yesterday for safe evacuation.

CGS Kanaklata evacuated Mr Vitaly Kurochkin from the foreign vessel.

ICGMRCC said the operation was quite difficult as the sea was rough and the research vessel could not stop due to seismic survey.

After rescuing, Mr Kurochkin was sent to G B Pant hospital, and is in stable conditions.
