Heat wave intensifies, mercury at 47 degrees; 21 dead
Lucknow, May 7 (UNI) Two more heat wave deaths were reported today from Deoria and Jalaun districts in Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll to 21.
The heat wave intensified further in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hrs and reached 47 degrees Celsius in Jhansi, which was five degrees above normal.
The problems of the people are compounded with the power crisis facing UP with long spells of scheduled and unscheduled rostering at odd hrs.
According to the met department, the heat wave is likely to persist for the time being. Storms at sporadic places have also been forecast in the next 24 hrs.
The sweltering heat has badly affected normal life in Bundelkhand region. Mahoba district alone accounts for eight deaths.
