BKU rejects Rs 10 sugarcane price hike
Moga, May 7 (UNI) The Bharti Kisan Union (Lakhowal) while rejecting the Punjab government's decision to hike the price of sugarcane by Rs 10 per quintal today demanded minimum price as per price index of Rs 165 per quintal.
BKU (Lakhowal) acting president Prof Manjit Singh Kadian here today said that despite steep hike in sugar prices, price of sugarcane was hiked only Rs 10 per quintal.
While pointing out that the state government was providing sugarcane molasses at a very cheap rate in the form of subsidy to the distilleries, Prof Kadian demanded that co-operative sugar mills must be allowed to sell molasses in the open market.
