Atrocities during democracy move to be probed
Kathmandu, May 7: The Judicial Commission Chairman, probing the atrocities committed during the democracy movement, has said the Commission would recommend action against all those using excessive force to suppress people.
''All those involved in use of excessive force against people will be brought to justice,'' state media quoted Mr Rayamajhi, former Supreme Court Justice, as saying.
The punishment and penalty would be determined as per the existing laws of the land and international humanitarian laws and conventions to which Nepal is a signatory, he said.
Mr Rayamajhi said the investigation would be carried out as per the judicial norms with a surety that those violating laws could not escape action.
The Commission's work will be to bring the guilty to the book respecting people's sentiment, he added.
He said the Commission would call those implicated for inquiry and explanation, adding those defying would face charge of defamation as the Commission would be a body having rights on a par with a court as decided by the government.
The government has formed a five-member commission under the chairmanship of Justice Rayamajhi.
Meanwhile, the Royal Government has been condemned for the use of excessive force during the peoples' movement launched by seven political parties with the support of Maoists and people of all walks of life.
