State power company rationalises tariff across board in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, May 6 (UNI) The newly constituted State-owned Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) has decided to reduce cross-subsidy for 'open access' consumers during 2006-07 to Rs 1.38 per unit from Rs 1.80 per unit, in concurrence with the statutory Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC).

GUVNL has also 'rationalised' tariff for different categories of consumers with effect from April 1, 2006, says a release issued here today.

The company has increased 'fixed charges' for both Low Tension (LT) and High Tension (HT) consumers, but claimed that it would increase burden by maximum one per cent.

While the company estimated revenue income during the current financial year going up to Rs 10,840 crore (including subsidy), GERC fixed it at Rs 11,024 crore, leaving a gap of 184 crore.
