Rijiju to represent India in Commonwealth meet

Itanagar, May 6 (UNI) Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Khirem Rijiju has been nominated as one of the two delegates to represent India in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Convention and Seminar to be held at various places of England, Wales and Belgium from May 7 to 19 next.

The convention is being organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, United Kingdom branch, informed sources here today.

The BJP MP, who is leaving the national capital today for London, has thus become the second MP from the Northeast after former Speaker and MP Purno A Sangma to represent the country in such an international forum of repute.

Meanwhile, the state unit of the BJP has wished Mr Rijiju all success during his foreign trip.

Expressing its gratefulness to the Central government and the Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chaterjee for nominating Mr Rijiju to represent the country in the convention.

''It is a matter of great pride and honour not only for Arunachal but for the entire region and the nation as a whole'', the party added.
