New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) In order to ensure safety of roadusers and prevent congestion, the city police has banned plying of heavy and medium goods vehicles on all roads leading to the Walled city.

An order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Mahabir Singh prohibited plying and parking of heavy and medium goods vehicles 24 hours of the day on all eight roads leading to the Old city from last night, a statement said today.

The order would replace an earlier order allowing such vehicles in the area excepting during morning and evening peak traffic hours.

All police stations in the area had been intimated about the order.

Civic and road agencies responsible for maintaining the area/roads would have to erect signboards mentioning the restriction.
