Jat Mahasabha organiseS mass marriages to cut 'extravagance'
New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) As many as 150 marriages were solemnised in mass marriage ceremonies organised by All India Jat Mahasabha across Madhya Pradesh in order to do away with the customary 'extravagance' associated with marriages.
As many as 50 couples got married in Ratlam district on 'Akshay Teej', 64 couples in Dhar district, 20 couples in Indore district and 16 couples in Ujjain, Jat Mahasabha President Dara Singh said in a statement here today.
More mass marriage ceremonies would be oragnised in other states so the people of the community did not indulge in pomp and show, and waste money during marriages, it stated.
Each girl was given five saries, 11 utensils, one gold ring, 'mangal sutra', one pair of 'pajebs', and a gas cylinder and gas stove.
As many as 101 couples would be married in a mass marriage ceremony in Ujjain in February next year, it was announced.
