Girl rescued from crocodile's jaw

Kendrapada, May 6 (UNI) A fifteen-year-old girl was attacked by a crocodile while she was bathing with her friends in Kharasrota river at Gangadharprasadadiha village under Rajkanika police station on Thursday, but rescued by the prompt action of her companions.

Police said that when Abali Behera cried for help, one of her friends, Banita Behera sounded an alarm and called her brother Bibhuti, who was plying a raft.

Banita courageously pulled her friends' hand and her brother, who was on a raft, attacked the crocodile with a bamboo forcing the amphibian to release the girl.

Later, Abali Behera was rushed to the local PHC for treatment from where she was shifted to SCB medical College and Hospital at Cuttack as her condition deteriorated.

Locals alleged that crocodiles have entered the Kharasrota river as they were not getting sufficient food in the creeks and rivulets.

During the last couple of months, crocodiles have attacked at least a dozen persons in Rajkanika block.

Sudhakar Rout, a resident of Annatapur village was killed by a crocodile, a couple of days back, while taking a bath in the Kharasrota river.
