Electoral officers on rampage in Siliguri
Siliguri, May 6 (UNI) Tension gripped Siliguri after some angry electoral officers attacked the police and broke the glasses of vehicles, alleging that they did not get food, water and even there appointment letter till late in the evening.
The officers, who came to Siliguri Constituency from Darjeeling, said they had appealed to the Election Commission but yet to get any response.
At least 3,800 electoral officers came to Siliguri constituency before the fifth and final phase of West Bengal State Assembly elections on May 8.
Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the angry officers.
District Magistrate and District Election Officer Ariz Aftab also appealed to the officers to keep patience.
''We would investigate into the matter,'' he said, adding according to EC rules appointment letters would be given to them tomorrow.
