EC serves notice on govt vechiles

Chennai, May 6: The Election Commission has served notices to Tamil Nadu Government and AIADMK functionaries, seeking a clarification on the number of government vehicles that followed party supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's convoy when she campaigned in Krishnagiri recently.

The Election Observer, who was posted to monitor the poll process in Krishnagiri district, noticed the ''violation of model code of conduct'' when Ms Jayalalithaa was on a campaign tour there on May one and two.

Based on his report that a large number of government vehicles above the permissible limit accompanied by Ms Jayalalithaa, the poll panel has served the notices, official sources said.

The State Chief Secretary and AIADMK partymen, who organised the campaign, were expected to send their reply by today when the elecioneering would come to an end in the state.
