CPI demands amendment on Muslim reservation
Vijayawada, May 6 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today demanded a Constitutional amendment to provide reservation to minorities in education and employment as mooted by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Addressing a press conference here, CPI State Secretary K Narayana said the state government had moved the Supreme Court after the High Court held that the reservation was unconstituional.
However, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court judgment and ordered status quo on the issue.
The apex court also refused to pass an interim order on the issue yesterday.
He said the Chief Minister should prevail on the Centre to bring an amendment to this effect by taking into confidence all the political parties.
