Centre sanctions Rs 100 Cr for promoting Sports in Karnataka
Gulbarga, May 6(UNI) The Union Ministry of Sports has sanctioned Rs 100 Crore to the Karnataka government for promotion of sports, including construction of stadiums in each Taluk with an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakhs each, Minister for Sports and Youth Services Alkod Hanumanthappa said today.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that the amount would be released in four years at Rs 25 Crore per year.
He said that a meeting, with sports experts, would be convened on May 12 to evolve a new strategy to promote sports in the State. It was proposed to construct stadiums in each taluk to promote sports in rural areas.
He appealed to the local bodies to promote traditional games like Kabadi and Kho Kho. The minister announced that a swimming pool would be constructed in Gulbarga.
