Mumbai, May 6 (UNI) Maharashtra BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, on behalf of the Pramod Mahajan family, thanked people for their support during the 12-day ordeal when the late leader was battling for life.

In a signed statement, state unit president Nitin Gadkari and Mr Munde, who is the brother-in=law of late Mr Mahajan said the incident of April 22 (when Mahajan's brother Pravin shot him point blank at close range) not only devastated the Mahajan family but also came as a rude shock to the BJP.

''Every one was stunned by the mind numbing episode. Words fail to express emotions... the Mahajan family and the BJP is passing through testing times'', the statement said.

''But, the events of last fortnight..when the common man extended his abundant love for the departed leader, citizens prayed for Pramodji's life, many offered to donate their organs, special prayers were held at all religious places, have touched our hearts'', it said.

The statement further added that these events have given BJP and family members strength to face trying times. ''we are deeply indebted to all who stood behind us,prayed for us and extended best wishes'', it said.

Thanking the Hinduja hospital administration, the statement said the hospital became a second home for BJP activists since Mr Mahajan was admitted there. ''The security at the hospital was beefed up in view of the visits from prominent personalities, putting immense strains on the hospital staff. But, they whole-heartedly co-operated with us'', the statement said.

''We extend our sincere thanks to the hospital administration, doctors, nurses, ward boys and other staffers. We also sincerely apologise to other patients and their visitors for any inconvenience caused during the period. We also thank the police and members of the media. The entire family and the party can never forget the co-operation and efforts of each and every one'', the statement added.
