New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) Delhi Police shot dead five gangsters, including Uttar Pradesh's most wanted criminal Ayub Khan, in a late night encounter in Sonia Vihar area of North East Delhi.
Acting on a tip off, a team of city police's Special Cell was waiting for the gangster near the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border last night. At about 2300 hrs, he was spotted in a Tata Sumo along with five others, police said.
The vehicle occupants were told to stop but they did not and instead fired at the police, who returned the fire injuring five of the gangsters while one managed to escape into the woods along the Yamuna.
The injured were taken to hospital but were declared 'Dead on Arrival'.
Ayub Khan, who hailed from Meerut in UP, had about 30 cases, including attempt to murder, robbery and looting, against him mostly in Uttar Pradesh. The identity of his accomplices was yet to be established.
Locally and foreign made arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
