Threat to BJP candidate, police protection provided

Chennai, May 5 (UNI) C Kantilal, the BJP candidate for Park Town constituency for the May 8 Assembly elections, was provided with Police protection following a threat on his life by an unidentified gang two days ago.

Talking to newspersons here today, Mr Kantilal said the gang came to his residence and warned of dire consequences if he did stop campaigning and withdraw from the contest.

He immediately reported the matter to the city police control room and the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu demanding protection and to take suitable action against the culprits.

He said there was an overwhelming response among the voters during his campaigning.
