New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) Former Prime Minister V P Singh today advocated supply of diesel and kerosene/cooking gas to farmers and urban poor through ration cards.
"International oil prices had shot up in the global market, so some rise in petrol and diesel prices was now unavoidable. However, considering the issue, it was important to fashion a special regime in favour of vulnerable sections of the society, in particular kisans and poor consumers in rural as well as urban areas, " he said in a statement.
''I suggest that some kind of rationing should be introduced in favour of kisans so that on the basis of a ration card they should be entitled to minimum necessary supply of diesel at a reasonable price,'' he said.
The issue of entitlement card could be related to easily ascertainable objective criteria of requirement, he said.
System for supply of kerosene/cooking gas should be similarly followed, he added.
