PM urges industry, corporates to invest in knowledge economy

Panaji, May 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today urged the industry and the corporate sector to invest in 'knowledge economy'.

Dr Singh also called for a Government-private sector partnership for easing the demand for trained manpower in a knowledge economy.

He said this while formally inaugurating the Goa campus of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) at Zuari Nagar in South Goa.

The Prime Minister also asked the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) to help Government upgrade at least 100 of the 500 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the country.

He expressed his keenness towards the educational system being more vocationally-oriented, so as to increase employment opportunities for raising technical skills.
