Mahindra rout Mohammedan Sporting 5-0, S Venkatesh shines

Margao, May 5 (UNI) Federation Cup champions Mahindra United (Mumbai) routed Kolkata's Mohammedan Sporting 5-0 to move a step ahead for their maiden NFL title in the second leg of the the ONGC Cup National Football league championship match played here at Nehru stadium Fatorda today.

Mahindra United toyed with their rivals and scored through S Venkatesh in the 46th and 68th minutes (his brace), Yakubu Yusif in the 53rd minute, Rauf Khan 73rd minute and Sustitute K Anees in the 83rd minute.

Mahindra could have romped home with a much bigger victory margin had it not been for the rival's goalkeeper, Arindam Ghosh, who brought off a couple of smart saves especially in the first half.

With this win, Mahindra maintained their position at the top of the table with 32 points from 14 outings with 10 wins, two draws and two losses. Mohammedan Sporting were tied with Mahindra on 15 points after outings.

Mahindra's medio S Venkatesh was adjudged the man of the match for his fine performance.
