Lawyer given 3-month imprisonment for contempt of court

Allahabad, May 5 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today sentenced a lawyer to three months simple imprisonment for Contempt of Court.

The guilty Vishram Singh Raghubansi who hails from district Etawah in Uttar Pradesh has also'' to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

A division bench comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Ravindra Singh passed the order.

The judges ordered if the lawyer fails to deposit the fine, he shall serve further one month imprisonment.

According to reference sent to HC by the then district judge of Etawah, the contemnor, in a criminal case, had tried to threaten a witness during cross examination of a case.

When additional chief judicial magistrate Etawah tried to restrain him, the lawyer started abusing the magistrate and tried to snatch the court document.

The judges, after hearing the parties, held the advocate guilty for committing criminal contempt.
