K'taka govt cancels membership of 12 erring panchayat members
Bangalore, May 5 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has cancelled the membership of 12 members of Varavatti village Panchayat in Bhalki taluk in Bidar district in connection with financial irregularities in taking up development works.
Informing this to reporters here today, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister C M Udasi said the members had misused their powers and had taken contracts in their names for carrying out the works.
As per the Panchayat Raj rules, members were not permitted to take contracts for development works and draw cheques in their names, he explained.
He said the Panchayat was dissolved following mismanagement of affairs by most of its members, including the President.
