Govt to prosecute Telugu Daily for 'defamatory' reports

Hyderabad, May 5 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government has accorded permission to the State Mineral Development Corporation Ltd to file a complaint against a leading Telugu daily for publishing two ''false and baseless'' news items in November 2005.

The Government after careful examination of the matter and being satisified that the allegations made were ''false and baseless and highly defamatory'' and likely to cause harm to reputation and tarnish the dignity of both Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Corporation and the Corporation itself, an order issued by the Industries and Commerce Department Secretary, said.

The order released to the press here today, said it appointed senior advocate S Satyanarayana Prasad as Special Public Prosecutor to file the aforesaid complaint and to prosecute the same against the printer, Chief Editor, Reporter and the Publisher of the Daily ''Andhra Jyothi.'' It termed as ''false and frivolous allegations'' against the Corporation Vice-Chairman in the two news items with the caption ''Aakramakudike Grainte Haaram'' on November 26, 2005 and with the caption ''Bhale Machi Chowka Beramu'' on November 29.
