Srinagar, May 5 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) President and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has lamented that Team India cricketer Suresh Raina does not play for the state despite being a Kashmiri.

''Raina is a Kashmiri Pandit. He plays for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy and not Jammu and Kashmir. He didn't get a chance from the state,'' he told Doordarshan in an exclusive interview which was telecast last night.

Dr Abdullah said there were other players also who did not get a chance to play for Jammu and Kashmir.

''We have a great talent in the state. A cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir will soon play county matches in England,'' he added.

Dr Abdullah said the JKCA would make efforts to improve the cricketing conditions in the state.

''We want to bring it to the international level. We will soon get good coaches also. We have to take the advantage of good weather conditions so that world class cricketers emerge from the state,'' he added.
