DGP rejects leave application of cops to participate in union meet

Surat, May 4 (UNI) A bid by policemen to form a state-wide association following a recent Gujarat High Court judgment got a set.

back after the state Director-General of Police (DGP) in Gujarat today refused to grant a one-day mass casual leave to policemenm to attend a proposed meet to form a state-wide association.

Many policemen in Surat had started submitting casual leave applications to attend the meet. But their applications were rejected today as per the instructions from the state DGP, sources said.

A recent High Court judgment had allowed policemen in the state to form associations, and the staff members were planning to meet tomorrow at Ahmedabad, they added.

With the DGP refusing to grant leave, the staff members were planning to approach the High Court to seek permission to participate in the association's meeting.
