Delimitation body's move to dissolve Somwarpet seat opposed

Madikeri, Karnataka, May 5 (UNI) The Madikeri Zilla Panchayat has passed a resolution, opposing the Delimitation Commission's proposal to dissolve Somwarpet constituency.

The meeting, chaired by ZP President Ashok Kumar yesterday, had discussed the drawbacks of delimitation and decided to oppose the move in toto.

It was also decided to appeal to the Centre through the Karnataka Government not to consider the recommendation. The meeting suggested that the Delimitation Commission consider the geographical status of the district and not just the size of the population.

The ZP sanctioned Rs one lakh for celebrating Brahmakalashotsava at Talacauvery. Legislator Basavaraju urged all the taluk panchayats to release Rs 25,000 each for the conduct of the utsav.
