Charnjit Singh leads Parliamentary delegation to Nairobi

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) An Indian Parliamentary delegation, led by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh, has left for Nairobi, Kenya, to attend the 114th Assembly of the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) from May 7-12.

The Assembly will take up for discussion the political, economic and social situation in the world with a view to promoting democracy and helping build democratic institutions, a Lok Sabha Secretariat press release said today.

The 143-member organisation will also discuss the role of parliaments in environment management and in combating global degradation of the environment.

It will also take up panel discussions on 'Africa Development' and 'HIV/AIDS and Children'.

The other members of the delegation are Dr Najma Heptulla, Mr P C Thomas, Mr Ramji Lal Suman, Mr N V Hanumanthapa, Mrs Neeta Pateriya, Mr Jesudasu Neelam (all MPs) and Mr S Bal Shekar, joint secretary in the Lok Sabha Secratariat and secretary to the delegation.
