5 killed, 8 injured in road mishap

Bangalore, May 5 (UNI) Five pedestrians, including three women, died and eight others were injured when a speeding truck turned turtle near Tarikere town in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka today.

Police said the mishap occurred when the truck crashed on the victims, all farm labourers, because of jaggery-ladden lorry ramming into it from behind.

The victims, identified as Kamalamma (40), Rudramma (40), Annapurna (35), Narayana (35) and Thimma Bhovi (58) were going to their workplace.

The injured were admitted to Tarikere and Shimoga General Hospitals.
