Lokayukta case against ex-minister in MP

Bhopal, May 4 (UNI) The Lokayukta today filed a case against BJP MLA and former minister Omprakash Dhurve and another person for allegedly cheating the Madhya Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd of about Rs eight lakh.

''Following a directive from of the Anti-Corruption Cell (Lokayukta) Justice Ripusudan Dayal, the case was filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mr Dhurve and businessman Mukesh Goyal,'' said its Special Police (Establishment) Deputy Inspector-General G P Singh.

In 2003, Mr Dhurve was allegedly hand-in-glove with contractor Goyal while the former was Food and Civil Supplies minister and corporation chairman.

''Mr Dhurve invited tenders for food grain transport in Hoshangabad district. Officials forwarded a file recommending that the contract be awarded to Mr Mohammad Shafi whose quotation was lowest,'' the officer explained.

The former minister did not sign the file on some pretext for about three months. Meanwhile, the corporation suffered losses as grain was transported at previously-enforced higher rates, Mr Shafi complained to Lokayukta.
