Jeev tied 5th after round of 68 in Korea
Incheon, May 4 (UNI) Leader of the UBS Order of Merit Jeev Milkha Singh kicked off his campaign with a strong four-under 68 for the tied fifth place, while Australian Adam Le Vesconte and golfing sensation Michelle Wie shares the day one honour at the 600,000 dollar SK Telecom Open here today.
Among other Indians in the fray, Harmeet Singh Kahlon returned two-under 70 to tie for the 28th place while Amandeep Johl's two-over 74 had him way down tied at 89th.
Meanwhile, reigning Philippine Open champion Vesconte grabbed the first round lead with a seven-under 65 even though it was Wie who grabbed most of the attention with a battling 70.
Vesconte is now two strokes ahead of Malaysia's Ian Steel, Australian Brad Kennedy and local talent Lee Seung-ho at the Sky 72 Golf Club.
Wie, hit by a flu bug, is bidding for her first cut in eight starts against the men and the Hawaiian teenager fired four birdies against two bogeys for tied 28th position.
Starting from the 10th, she birdied her opening hole and nailed another birdie from 13 feet on the 15th hole.
''I felt like I played good and bad. I made some putts where I had to,'' said Wie, who dropped a bogey at the 17th hole.
Cheered by the local crowd, Wie, whose parents are Korean, fired two more birdies on the first and second that put her back on track before stumbling on the sixth hole for a bogey.
''I was worried initially before I started because of my cold but I felt good overall. I enjoyed the attention and never felt nervous by the large crowd watching me play,'' she said.
