India is the flavour of the ADB meet
Hyderabad, May 4 (UNI) Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram was today the man of the day and India the flavour among countries at the ADB Annual meet here.
Mr Chidamabaram, who inaugurated the session 'India advantage,' highlighted that the current growth momentum was not just a gift of the cyclical optus, but reflected the buoyancy unleashed by structural changes in the economy.
In the Governors' seminar earlier in the day, Mr Chidambaram assured the Asian community that India would not be found wanting in unwinding the global economic imbalances.
To suit the occasion, Mr Chidambaram was dressed in suit and a matching tie, instead of his traditional South Indian dress.
The Indian Finance Minister's advice and company was eagerly sought by the Governors of the ADB attending the show.
ADB President H Kurodo heaped lavish praises on the development model followed by India and its strong democratic traditions as well as its success at poverty alleviation.
Finance Ministers from 39 countries and delegates from 66 countries are participating in the mega event.
Today was the second day of the ADB meet and it was christened as 'India Day', as a mark of respect to the host country.
The event being held in India itself is reflective of the growing clout of the country. This is backed by its strong economic performance.
Hyderabad, once known as the city of Nawabs, wears a new look with modern infrastructure and state of the art buildings.
The Hyderabad International Covention Centre is just an example of this, spread over a huge area and with ultra modern conference rooms.
A session was devoted to the Indian States, where the Chief Ministers spoke about the benefits that will accrue to the investing community if they put their money in their respective states.
Mr Chidambaram visited the 'Hitex Exhibition Hall' organised on the sidelines of the conference. The stalls displayed the rich collection of art and craft items from different parts of the country.
The Finance Minister was accorded a welcome to the venue of the Conference in a manner important guests are treated in Andhra Pradesh, well known for its hospitality.
Warm wishes continued to pour in from one and all throughout the day.
